FAQ for Upgrading to Version 24

Version 24 of Productionserver, Proofgate and Filmgate is out now! If you have a valid Value Pack, you can update, free of charge. In this blog entry, we answer the most important questions about upgrading to V24.

The upgrade process from one version to the next is generally the same. Before upgrading, you should back up and restore your system configuration. Your usual settings, profiles and printer definitions will then be available directly in V24. In version 23.10 and higher, you also have the option of importing your system configurations using the Setup Assistant.

WHO IS ENTITLED TO A FREE UPGRADE?

All customers who had a valid Value Pack on the effective date of September 16th 2024 can upgrade to version 24 free of charge.

Please note that, prior to using the new version 24, our Customer Service team must update your license. Please contact your dealer or, if you purchased your license directly from ColorGATE, our Customer Service team, stating your license number and your upgrade request.

I HAVE A Valid VALUE PACK. WILL MY LICENSE BE UPGRADED AUTOMATICALLY?

For technical reasons, your license needs to be upgraded to V24 before you will be able to use the new version. Please note that the license upgrades are not rolled out automatically. Please contact your dealer or, if you have purchased your license directly from ColorGATE, our Customer Service (customerservice@colorgate.com) with your license number and upgrade request.

If you want to switch from a license with USB key, i.e., with dongle, to a license with soft key, please contact your dealer or our Customer Service directly.

If you have purchased your ColorGATE product as an OEM version from a printer manufacturer, the manufacturer will contact you as soon as version 24 is available for you.

I do not have a valid value Pack. How can I upgrade my software?

Your dealer will be able to provide you with a quote for an upgrade. If you purchased your license directly from ColorGATE, you can also contact our Customer Service team.

How do I back up my software settings?

If you are currently using V23, please ensure you have installed the latest release build 23.11.16200, before you are upgrading to V24.

To back up your settings, start your software and back up your configurations at Options > System Configuration > Backup…. A detailed description can be found here.

Can I still use my previous version after the upgrade?

With a V24 license, you can use both V24 and the latest builds of versions 10 to 23. To use previous software versions with a V24 license, you need at least the following builds:

  • 10.34.8853
  • 20.01.9223
  • 21.10.11564
  • 22.10.14176
  • 23.11.16200

The corresponding hotfix builds are available in the Service & Support area on our website at Menu > Download > Software. These versions can be installed side by side on the same system and run alternately without any problems.

When switching between multiple installations, the previously unused product must be started once with administrative rights. This applies to both licenses with USB key licenses and with soft key licenses. For licenses with soft key, the license must be relevoked in the previously used version before switching to another version. To do this, select Productionserver/Proofgate/Filmgate23 > Productionserver/Proofgate/Filmgate23 - Revoke License from the Windows start menu. A dialog will open where you can start the revocation process. This requires an active internet connection. 
If you are still using a previous V23 build, you should first install the latest V23.11 build before upgrading. You will need build V23.11.16200 or newer to be able to use V23 with your V24 license. You can find a hotfix build in our Service & Support area (login required) at Menu > Download > Software > Version 23 > Productionserver/Filmgate/Proofgate 23.

Do I have to register my product again?

Usually, your license number will stay the same and you do not have to re-register your product.
